Welcome to Lego Club!
I hope you all had an awesome summer break. At our first Lego Club for this school year we will have a Lego Challenge for all the children (parents’ help is allowed 😊). They will present a Lego creation where they display their favorite Bible verse. This is not a must for all the children, it’s just something different for the ones who would like to challenge themselves. I am really excited about this and I hope you will encourage your children to participate.
After Lego Club, for those who are interested, we will head over to Commons Park splash pad. Bring your swimwear, your towels and some lunch and enjoy more fellowship with our homeschooling parents.
During our Lego Club meeting, your children may either build something ahead of time and bring it to share during ‘show and tell,’ or they can choose to build something while at club within the others. Most kids have their creations already built when they arrive, but either way, we’ll have some free-build time in the beginning, followed by show-and-tell by age. Parents of little ones are free to organize them in a circle on a blanket and have them present their creations (it they have any) in an informal fashion, since it is difficult for them to sit still or follow directions at their age.
This is NOT a drop-off event, and parental participation is expected.
Children are given the opportunity to meet new friends, interact with others, share together, use imagination, and practice listening and speaking skills. It’s also a wonderful opportunity for parents to meet other FHIS homeschoolers! Depending on the mix of kids each month, older children may have the opportunity to ‘teach’ the younger ones how to create various simple objects; or, we may have games or a ‘contest’, with two groups creating lego scenes, utilizing team work.
***** As with all FHIS events, this is a parent-run activity. There are not enough Legos for fifty people, so, in order to make Lego Club work smoothly, we need some families to bring Legos to share. We keep them carefully separated during the activity time (which takes place before Show and Tell), and you are welcome to have your child/ren be assigned to the activity group using your bricks. We need three families each month to bring some, as interactive building is a key aspect to Lego Club. If you will bring Legos to share, please include that in the comment box when you RSVP. Thank you! *****
Due to the size of Lego Club, please keep show-and-tell creations to one per child. Also, we appreciate your informing your children ahead of time about standard library conduct— ie, keeping quiet in the hallways, no running, etc.
CANCELLATIONS
THERE IS NO WAIT LIST for Lego Club. If you have your FHIS email notifications set to receive emails about all FHIS website activity, then you will see emails whenever anyone cancels, giving you the opportunity to go in and RSVP for the event if you were unable to do so before it filled up.
If you do need to cancel, please do so as soon as you are aware of it. This will open up spaces for anyone who was hoping to attend and could not.
RSVP DETAILS
When you RSVP, please include the total number of people in your group, counting yourself and ALL children, even littles— We all take up space and happy noise :). Unless the group is small, Show-and-Tell groups begin at age 5. The average oldest child tends to be 12 or 13, but all ages are welcome! Remember to include in the rsvp comment box if you can bring a bucket of bricks to share during activity/game time.
If you have any questions, feel free to text me at 214-850-1158. Looking forward to see you soon! Fabi Suceveanu
